Uniastrum Bank was registered in March 1994 in the form joint-stock company closed type. The first shareholders with an authorized capital of 200 thousand rubles were Uniastrum Holding CJSC, Ipromashprom OJSC, Interengineering CJSC, the Moscow Aviation Institute and the Uglegorsk Pulp and Paper Plant. Since 2000, the bank has been operating as a limited liability company. In the same 2000, the bank received a license to work with precious metals, and in 2005 - a general banking license. For a long time, Uniastrum remained a "bank for acquaintances." Sometimes it was called the bank of the Armenian diaspora, since many of the financial institution's VIP clients are Armenian citizens doing business in Russia.

In 2001, Uniastrum created its own UNIStream money transfer system, which for a long time formed a significant part of the business credit institution. In 2006, the system became an independent bank (JSC CB Unistream) and today it occupies a good position in the money transfer market. With the direct participation of UNIStream, the International Association of Money Transfer Networks (IAMTN) was founded, bringing together the leading participants in this market from all over the world.

Since November 2004, Uniastrum Bank has been a member of the deposit insurance system.

In mid-November 2016, the procedure for the merger of Uniastrum Bank with Vostochny Bank began. The planned date for the reorganization is the first quarter of 2017. It was also reported that the shareholders of Uniastrum Bank will receive about 40% in the united bank.
